The BMW i8 Concept is the next step in the evolution of BMW’s vision; Efficient Dynamics Concept, the most progressive and innovative sports car of its time. Its innovative plug-in hybrid concept combines the modified electric drive system from the BMW i3 Concept, fitted over its front axle with a high-performance three-cylinder combustion engine, producing 164 kW/220 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) at the rear. Working in tandem, they allow the two drive systems to display their respective talents to the full, delivering the performance of a sports car but the fuel consumption of a small car.

Acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under five seconds combined with fuel consumption in the European cycle of under three litres per 100 kilometres (approx. 94 mpg imp) are figures currently beyond the capability of any vehicle powered by a combustion engine of comparable performance. Thanks to the eDrive technology with its large lithium-ion battery, which can be charged from a domestic power supply, the BMW i8 Concept can travel approximately 20 miles on electric power alone. And with the 2+2-seater, it offers enough space for four people, giving it a high level of everyday practicality.

The LifeDrive architecture of the BMW i8 Concept has been carefully adapted to enhance the vehicle’s sports car character, and to deliver unbeatable performance and excellent driving dynamics. The motor in the front axle module and combustion engine at the rear are connected by an “energy tunnel”, which houses the high-voltage battery. This gives the car a low centre of gravity  and the dynamic benefits that come with it. With the electric motor and engine over their respective axles, the space-saving and well-balanced packaging of all components, result in an optimum 50/50 weight distribution.

Perhaps you treated yourself to a luxury car over the festive period or you bought one for a spouse or loved one. If you’ve spent a lot of money on a vehicle you will definitely want to make sure you get the right insurance protection. Shopping around on comparison sites such as MoneySupermarket.com is a great way to learn all about the best options. Value, power and performance are key influencers when you are choosing a car and these are also the factors that insurers will examine to give you a quote. Cars are banded in groups between 1 and 50, where the latter is the most expensive for high-end performance models. Cost is probably not your primary concern if you own a luxury car but rather you will want to make sure the cover is comprehensive as there is a greater risk of for example theft.

If you do want to reduce the amount you are paying for insurance, still ensuring the maximum protection for your car, there are a number of ways that this can be achieved. Reduce the mileage that you cover and set a limit with your insurer – in their eyes this will reduce the chances of you having an accident. Driving in a sensible and safe manner is always recommended, this will build up your no-claims discount so that you can gain more competitive quotes from the off. You should also make sure that you park in secure places and if you have a garage, always keep your car safely inside it when you are not out on the road.

Whether you own a beautiful Aston Martin, BMW, or a Jaguar to take on those country drives and show off to your friends, make sure you get the insurance cover you need.

Finding A Quality Used Car

Finding A Quality Used Car

Posted 07 April 2011 | By | Categories: Audi, BMW | No Comments

Finding a quality used car is not that hard to do. You simply need to learn as much about the car as possible and decide what price you’re willing to pay and where you want to buy it. Two wonderful used cars are a used BMW for sale and a used Audi for sale. Both a used Audi for sale and a used BMW for sale can be excellent vehicles to drive at a great price.

Price Ranges

When you’re first shopping for a used car at a dealer or from a private party, one of the first things you should decide is how much you’re going to pay. Part of this decision depends on how much money you have or how much of a loan you’re willing to get. But since used cars are so much less expensive than brand new cars, you should feel comfortable knowing that you’re not going to be paying a lot of money for the majority of used cars you’re considering buying. It’s wise to set yourself a price ceiling before you go shopping for a new car and make up your mind not to go over it. The best places to find a used car are car dealerships, used car lots and personal classified ads from private parties that you can find both online and in newspaper listings.

Test Drive

Whether you decide to find and buy your used car from a car dealership, a used car lot, or a private party, you need to thoroughly test drive the vehicle. Get behind the wheel and start it up and see how it starts. Then give it a comprehensive test drive on different road surfaces at both low and high speeds in busy city traffic and on the highway. Listen for unusual sounds coming from the engine, transmission and exhaust system or anywhere else on the car. Also, look to see if there are any leaks or strange odour’s coming out from any parts of the car.

You should also ask the dealer if he is giving a warranty on the vehicle and if so for how long a period of time. It could be anywhere from 60 days to three years, although some dealers sell their cars in as is condition, meaning there’s absolutely no warranty on it and they’re not responsible if anything goes wrong after you buy it. You should also check out all the major systems on the car such as the electrical system, cooling system, suspension, transmission, drive train and engine just to be on the safest side possible. Some of the best used cars come from major dealers with large inventories as well.

2010 BMW 7 Series

Following its successful introduction into the market, the new BMW 7 Series is further expanding its position in 2010 as the most innovative model series in the luxury segment. New drivetrain and equipment variants emphasise both the driving pleasure and the outstanding efficiency of BMW’s top-class luxury saloon.

The BMW 740d to be introduced in autumn, for example, will for the first time feature a new straight-six diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology and maximum output of 225 kW/306 hp. The second diesel model in the range, the BMW 730d, underlines its status as the world’s most economical and lowest emission model in the luxury class by a further reduction in both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions as well as optionally available BMW BluePerformance Technology.
